Utilizing Austrotherm geoBLOCK® EPS Block instead of conventional compacted soil fill as backfill enables to reduce vertical load on the culvert

Culverts are engineering structures which allow water to flow in slope direction under highway and railway embankments. Culverts are commonly made of precast or cast-in-place reinforced concrete boxes or steel or plastic (i.e. HDPE, PVC, etc.) pipes.

In engineering design of culverts the load of the embankment and pavement and the traffic load are taken into consideration. Utilizing Austrotherm geoBLOCK® EPS Block instead of conventional compacted soil fill as backfill enables to reduce vertical load on the culvert and therefore to make a more economical engineering design.

According to the fundementals of Geotechnical Engineering, Austrotherm geoBLOCKs can also be utilized “regionally” to consruct an “induced trench culvert”. Induced trench installations are commonly preferred in cases in which depth of burial is too large when compared to width of culvert. Depending on the case, this installation method may offer a more economical engineering solution.

Austrotherm geoBLOCK® EPS Block is an Civil Engineering application product which is served with technical support of Austrohtherm Civil Engineering Department. For more information please contact with;
